United Kingdom shares successful experience for the application in Ecuador – Ministry of Public Health

This Monday, March 6, 2023, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) inaugurated the “Training Workshop on Health Technology Assessment for the National Health System” in the city of Quito. The space was created to learn about the best experiences in the United Kingdom and its National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The event organized in collaboration with the British Embassy and the San Francisco de Quito University (USFQ) represents an opportunity to discuss the importance of Health Technology Assessment in the efficient allocation of resources and the improvement of the population’s access to technologies. safe and quality health care.

The Minister of Health, José Ruales, attended the meeting and referred to the importance of the application of technology in health through robotics, genetics, information technology and other lines that allow the development of vaccines, genetic therapies and other advances. . He also commented on the new structure of this State portfolio.

“As part of the new structure of the Ministry of Public Health, the National Directorate for Health Technology Assessment, has published the social assessment of health states for Ecuador as part of the EuroQol-5D instrument, in addition to 3 methodological manuals on reporting rapid evaluation of technologies for medicines, on budgetary impact analysis reports and, on economic evaluation of health technologies. These manuals put us on a level with international standards in health technology assessment”, he mentioned.

Ruales insisted that international collaboration makes it possible to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and improve the quality of evaluations around the world. He maintained that joint work contributes to advancing towards an evaluation of more effective and efficient health technologies.

The workshop will take place in five days and will address issues related to the Assessment of Sanitary Technologies in Ecuador; processes and methods, as well as the development of technical capacities to carry out and interpret the synthesis of evidence.

Gemma Sykes, Deputy Head of Mission of the British Embassy, ​​ratified the commitment to strengthen relations with Ecuador. “NICE has more than 22 years of medicine development and experience in aligning healthcare professionals. We have achieved significant success, which has allowed us to strengthen health technology processes”.

The event was also attended by Diego Quiroga, rector of USFQ; Ximena Garzón, Dean of Public Health at USFQ; and Karla Flores, Undersecretary of Strengthening the National Health System of the Vice Presidency of the Republic of Ecuador.
