UN resident coordinator Gwen Lewis ‌met ⁢with the ​leaders of ​the ‌Bangladesh Nationalist⁤ Party (BNP) on Friday (August 9)⁣ morning. The meeting focused on⁤ discussing the current situation in Bangladesh, ​including‌ the economic situation and ⁣the​ newly formed interim ​government.

BNP leaders ‌present at the meeting included​ standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, organizational secretary‌ Shama Obaid, and Dhaka-based United Nations human rights expert Huma Khan.

After⁢ the meeting,⁣ Chowdhury stated, “There has been a big change in ‌Bangladesh. We have ⁢achieved independence for‌ the second time.” He expressed appreciation for international support and ‍the mass public’s backing. He also highlighted the crucial role‌ of the United Nations in ‍restoring human rights in Bangladesh.
