Opposition leader Sajid Premadasa said the United People’s Power (UPP) was ready to lead a political uprising against the government as public discontent with the government intensified.

He made this statement during a media briefing held at the Jaffna Media Center on Sunday.

He further added that any party can come forward to work for a common policy under the United People’s Power. I am a Buddhist but I want to see everyone as Sri Lankans, regardless of religion or ethnicity. This is what the President should do.

We had provided housing projects under our regime. But even now the present government is showing the games to the people without providing funds for those housing projects.

We have come to carry out some programs in the North East. In that sense we are meeting the media in Jaffna today It is very pleasing but at present there are threats to the media in the country.

Ruling party ministers are currently being fired. The ministers thus ousted are unlikely to emerge as an alternative force led by Maithripala Sirisena.

Maithripala Sirisena is the person who has been sticking to the PA till now. It is not possible for such a person to become the common candidate of the opposition.

The government will be forced to hold parliamentary elections by mid-2023. The party, however, has no intention of fielding a candidate who is not a United People’s Power candidate. He said the United People’s Power was ready to lead a political uprising against the government as public discontent with the government intensified.
