London: Manchester United won a double in the English Premier League. Manchester United won the Best Player and Coach of the Month award for September.
United’s new manager Erik ten Haag was named manager of the year and striker Marcus Rashford was named player of the year. Both of them won the award through voting.
Ten Haag received the award on the strength of the huge change he brought about in the team as soon as he took over as coach. Despite losing the first two matches, Ten Haag led the team to victory in the next four matches. The Red Devils have beaten Liverpool, unbeaten Arsenal and Leicester City.
It is after three years that the award for the best coach reaches Manchester United. The last Manchester United coach to win the award was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2019. Ten Haag was named manager of the year ahead of Tottenham’s Antonio Conte and Bournemouth’s Gary O’Neill. Ten Haag joined United as coach this season from Ajax. Ten Haag has brought in new players and is currently leading the team in a good manner.
Rashford, who won the award for the best player, is showing a great performance under Ten Haag. Rashford scored two goals and provided two assists in two games last month. The goals against Arsenal add to the star’s award winning streak. Rashford scored a brace against Arsenal in a 3-1 win. This is the first time since January 2019 that Rashford has won the best player award.
Six people competed for the best actor award. In addition to Rashford, Bournemouth’s Philip Billing, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Tottenham’s Hoiberg, Everton’s Alex Iwobi and Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey were in the final round.
This is the first time since 2019 that United have won the Player and Manager award together. In 2019, Rashford and Solskjaer achieved this feat. United will face defending champions Manchester City in their next match. The match will be played on October 2 at 6:30 PM IST.
