After two days of resumption, the Union of Teacher-Researchers and Teacher-Researchers (SECES) announced yesterday that all teachers are once again stopping classes at the University of Antananarivo. The suspension of the salaries of three teachers and the summons of Professor Sammy Grégoire, president of the Antananarivo Section of the Criminal Research Brigade in Fiadanana, pushed the SECES to reverse its decision.

Last week, General Richard Ravalomanana, Acting Head of State, sent a letter to the Ministries of Finance and Higher Education, ordering them to suspend the salaries of striking teachers, particularly the leaders of the movement. Last Thursday, under pressure, the Seces decided to resume classes in order to finish the academic year, classes thus resumed last Monday but after these new circumstances, the Seces met yesterday in Ankatso and decided to maintain the strike.

The union, very angry, denounces the intimidation against the teaching staff. Their anger is such that they threaten to intensify their movement from this day on. However, they agreed to meet the students tomorrow to explain the situation to them.

The standoff between the State and Seces has lasted for several months, the unmet demands of Seces Antananarivo are based, among other things, on the payment of arrears for their vacation since 2018.
