Unknown vandals destroy Peace Woman by Berndt Wilde

by time news

Berndt Wilde is stunned. The Berlin sculptor stands in front of the fragments of his “Great Peace Woman”. It used to be a raised, tower-like figure that grew out of the light sandstone in a striking half-relief. The block comes from the Reinhardtsdorfer quarries in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The 2.30 meter high “Friedensfrau” marked the border route between the Oberhavel municipalities of Hohen Neuendorf and Birkenwerder. It was a real eye-catcher and the most valuable work of art on the popular sculpture boulevard. People in both towns were proud of this art event, which had been open to everyone since 2019. Berlin and Brandenburg artists worked together. The initiators are committed to the future of the project, the financing of which is unfortunately not secured by either municipality.
