ABU DHABI: The UAE is set to build an unmanned military helicopter (Phenom UAV) for surveillance and defense on land and sea. It will be capable of destroying enemies and equipment from the air.
The 2-tonne unmanned helicopter can perform multiple missions. Construction will begin at the end of 2026 on the Helio Aviation Technologies (Heliotech) production and design center in the Abu Dhabi Airport Free Zone. These helicopters have the ability to fly for long periods of time and are capable of steep take-off and landing.
Can carry weight up to 800 kg. A single fuel tank can fly for 4 hours and a 2 fuel tank can fly for 8 hours. A model of the Phenom was showcased at IDEX, an international defense exhibition. There is also a plan to build it on an industrial basis. Heliotech belongs to the Strategic Development Fund under Tawasun Council.
