Given the international positioning of Peruvian food, the Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FCA) of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) announced that it is in the process of creating the professional school of Gastronomy, in addition to Marketing and Maritime and Port Business Administration careers.

The Dean of Administrative Sciences, Augusto Hidalgo Sánchez, reported that these three new careers with high labor demand will be implemented from March of next year and will be part of the admission process that is running at the end of this 2023.
“The School of Gastronomy is already approved by the faculty council and it is expected that, by the month of November, the approval of the three schools will already be obtained. For sure, for the admission exam in March 2024, the three schools will already be open, ”he said in dialogue with Andina.
The School of Gastronomy already has an infrastructure for its students and a new building for its implementation, detailed Augusto Hidalgo.

“With this school we want the University of San Marcos to enter the subject of gastronomy because we see a permanent, stable, predictable activity and in which Peru already has a world image,” he said about the decision.
“Our San Marcos gastronomes will have to know a minimum of bromatology, that is, the science of food. And on that basis, build a career with technology, art and imagination, ”he added about the need to add the scientific component to gastronomy.

The dean specified that the creation of the Maritime and Port Business School is also due to the desire to contribute to the operation of the new Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal.

“With the creation of this school, we hope to create a critical mass of highly qualified professionals at an international level for the operation of this port megaproject and all its components, with the participation of the Peruvian professional,” he noted.
He explained that the field of work for graduates of this career is found in all maritime, fluvial and lake port facilities in the country. In addition, since this discipline works internationally with the same logic and technology, its professionals can also practice anywhere in the world.

“There is not only a demand dependent on large projects and institutions, but also on entrepreneurs. With this career there will be opportunities for young people with a business vision to open and operate a maritime and port business entity, for example, those related to risks and insurance,” added Hidalgo.
In the case of Marketing, its creation is supported by its high labor demand. “It is a transversal activity of all kinds of businesses, whether they are industrial, commercial, service, agricultural or international,” he said.
