Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that steps will be taken to give powers to North Eastern Provinces along with land powers without police powers.
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe formally opened the fourth session of the Ninth Parliament today, and he said this while delivering a policy briefing speech.
In this regard, he further said,
“Swiftly steps will be taken to find a solution to the ethnic problem which has remained unresolved for the last several years. Meanwhile, the long-standing ethnic problem will be resolved with maximum powers within the unitary system.
Clearance of land
However steps will be taken to devolve powers to provinces along with land powers without police powers.
Also, urgent action will be taken regarding the unreleased lands. Actions are being taken for that.
At the same time, President Ranil Wickramasinghe has also said that he is planning to carry out development work in the war-affected North-East.
Release of prisoners
At the same time, action will be taken to release those who have been in jail for many years without any trial,” the president said.
