Unni Mukundan starrer Malikappuram is one of the notable successes of recent Malayalam cinema. The film, which hit the theaters on December 30 as one of the last releases of 2022, is getting a good response from the audience even as it enters its third week. The film’s global collection is 25 crores. This is Unni Mukundan’s first 25 crore club film. Apart from this, the crew is hoping to get good business in the remake rights, satellite and OTT sectors of the movie.
Released in theaters in Kerala on December 30, the film received a great response over the New Year weekend. The film received positive word-of-mouth publicity on the first day itself and the family audience also turned up in large numbers. The GCC and UAE release was on January 5th and the release in other centers in India except Kerala was on the 6th. The film was later released in many foreign markets. The film also increased the screen count in Kerala in the second week. If it was released in 140 theatres, the film was screened in 170 screens in the second week. It has already collected more than 18 crores in theaters from Kerala alone. Despite the films of superstars Ajith and Vijay conquering theaters in Kerala, Malikappuram did not shake. The film is back with a bang.
The dubbed version of the film will soon be released in other states as well. Telugu superstar Allu Arjun’s company Geetha Arts has bagged the distribution rights for the Telugu version. The film will release on January 20. It is estimated that Unni Mukundan’s acceptance among the Telugu audience will also be in favor of Malikappuram.
