“Unpalatable Food”: P Chidambaram Slams Minister Over 1991 Reforms Remark | Nirmala Sitharaman slams Congress’s economic reforms as “Araivekadu”.

Chennai,

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the economic reforms undertaken by Manmohan Singh in 1991 as Union Finance Minister were half-hearted. Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has responded.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said at a BJP party function in Mumbai yesterday that the reforms introduced in 1991 when Manmohan Singh was finance minister in the Narasimha Rao-led Central Congress government were “half-paced”.

Congress MP Chidambaram responded to this on his Twitter page today, “It seems that the finance minister has called the 1991 reforms half a century. At this time, we should thank God.

Because Dr. Manmohan Singh has not served any overcooked and tasteless food like demonetisation, multi-rate GST and taxes on petrol and diesel,” he tweeted.
