The Sankarankoil region of Tenkasi district experienced unseasonal rains today at around 5 pm, resulting in damage to the harvested chilli pods in rainfed fields in areas such as Karisalkulam and Alagapuri Chatrakondan. The rain was accompanied by strong winds, causing uprooted trees and collapsed power poles. Subbiah, a 63-year-old farmer, expressed his helplessness in protecting his crops and lamented over the loss of valuable produce. The current market price for this type of chili is 23,000 rupees per quintal, but due to the damage, it is priced at only 11,000 rupees, causing immense difficulties for farmers. The Sankarankoil areas of Tenkasi district received sudden summer rains at around 5 pm today. Especially in Karisalkulam and Alagapuri Chatrakondan areas of Thiruvenkadam taluka of the district, rain lashed for an hour with strong winds. Trees on the roads were uprooted due to sudden rain. A few power poles collapsed in the rain. Meanwhile, acres of harvested chilli pods in rainfed fields in those areas were damaged due to the sudden rain.

Subbiah, a 63-year-old man from Karisal Pond, was unable to protect it. “I have never seen such a waiting rain in my time. The weather and the rain together have damaged the chillies. 23,000 per quintal, this chili is priced at 11,000. Farmers like me are suffering due to this unnecessary rain,” he said with pain.
