Summer rains have been widespread in Tamil Nadu for the last few days. The water level in the Cauvery River is gradually rising from 500 cubic feet per second. It has risen from 5000 cubic feet per second to 7500 cubic feet in the past few days. Following this, due to the intensification of summer rains in the Cauvery catchment areas in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the water level increased to 30 thousand cubic feet per second yesterday.

The district administration has banned tourists from bathing in the Okanagan Falls and the river and making gift trips due to the continuous rising water level. Due to the low rainfall, the water level dropped from 30,000 cubic feet to 20,000 cubic feet per second yesterday. The water level rose to 50,000 cubic feet per second from Pilikundulu on the Tamil Nadu border.

The floodwaters inundated the walkway leading to the Okanagan Falls, submerging major waterfalls and rocks. This is the first time in history that the Cauvery River has flooded during the summer. Thus, the police, revenue department, fire department and rural development department are engaged in intensive monitoring of the Cauvery River in areas such as Uttamalai, Alambadi and Okanagankal.
