An unpublished novel by Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez will be released next year, as recently confirmed by the label Literatura Random House.

Under the title “In August we see each other”, the book will be published for the tenth anniversary of the death of Gabo, in the year 2024, and its launch will take place in all Spanish-speaking countries, in what the publisher has considered ” without a doubt the most important editorial event of the coming year”.

The publication of the novel will also coincide with the 20th anniversary of the release of his latest work, “Memory of my sad whores”, which was published in 2004.

Likewise, the children of García Márquez have revealed that “In August we see each other” was “the fruit of a last effort to continue creating against all odds”, from the father of magical realism and one of the most widely read authors of all time. .

“Reading it once more, almost ten years after his death, we discovered that the text had many and highly enjoyable merits. There is nothing that prevents you from enjoying the most outstanding of Gabo’s work: his capacity for invention, the poetry of language, the captivating narrative, his understanding of the human being and his affection for his experiences and misadventures, especially in love. , possibly the main theme of all his work”, assured Rodrigo and Gonzalo García Barcha.

In statements offered by the journalist José Salgar to the agency EFE in 2008, revealed that Gabo was about to finish this work, which closed the cycle started in 1985 with “Love in the Times of Cholera”, which was followed by “Of Love and Other Demons” in 1994 and “Memory of my sad whores” in 2004.

On this occasion, the plot is based on an upper-class woman who, every August, goes to a spa on the Colombian coast. Each chapter recounts one of the visits made by the lady, who is named Ana Magdalena Bach and is 52 years old.

Happily married, the protagonist visits her mother’s grave on a Caribbean island every August 16, where she deposited a bouquet of gladioli for her and takes the opportunity to tell her family news. Until one night that summer, she met a man at the hotel bar.
