Unread now available for Mac, my favorite app for reading news on the iPhone lands on macOS

Unread now available for Mac

I have been using Unread on the iPhone for so long that I can’t remember when it started. It is my favorite news app and its app for Mac has just been released. It is a mirror app of the one on iPhone and iPad, and it has become my favorite way to read news on my Mac as well. I have been testing it in beta and have seen how it has developed over time.

Unread for Mac is the typical app for Mac: with three columns, one for feeds, another for news, and another for reading the news. What I like most about this app is its simplicity, minimalism, and the option to automatically show the full news from feeds without needing to go to the specific website.

Unread for Mac has been built from the ground up to be native

Unread for Mac has been built from scratch to be a native app that uses AppKit and a touch of SwiftUI. This means it uses Apple technologies and is an app made for its devices. Although the Mac version is very similar to the iPhone or iPad version, it has exclusive features: search suggestions and an improved view switch between feed and web. Unread stands out from other applications for several reasons:

  • Automatically shows the full text of a webpage.
  • Unread has its own cloud that enhances the news updating experience.
  • Unread has a quick subscription feature to feeds on compatible websites.
  • Option to save articles in Unread.
  • Customization with themes and different icons for the app.
  • Easy to use with your thumb thanks to gestures.

Now, with the launch of the Mac app, the circle is complete. An app that has been developed from scratch using Apple technologies and includes features that make it special as previously mentioned. Unread can be downloaded for free from the Mac App Store and almost all of its features can be used without paying. However, if you want them all, there is a monthly or annual subscription available.
