“Unrefined sanctions make non-humans stronger”, said the chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and called on MEPs to support a resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to help rebuild Ukraine, Ukrinform reported.
Stefanchuk made his appeal during his speech at the PACE spring session in Strasbourg.
The chairman of the unicameral Ukrainian parliament made his statement to politicians from 46 European countries.
“I want everyone to finally understand: the peacekeeping games, the lack of weapons, the unpolished sanctions, the slowness in confiscating Russian assets, the lack of accountability and punishment mechanisms make the inhumans stronger,” Stefanchuk said.
In his words, democracy must be united and protect those who share its values.
“I am fully aware that the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly do not decide military and economic issues. But I really want you to teach me. An air defense system costs less than the damage of a missile that was not intercepted. Any electronic warfare system increases the chances of neutralizing enemy drones, which means saving human lives,” said Stefanchuk.
He called on the deputies to support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s formula for a just and lasting peace and invited the leadership of the Council of Europe to the Peace Meeting in Switzerland, BTA reports.
“I am sure that the Council of Europe will participate in the process that will return peace to the continent. That is why we expect the leaders of your countries, as well as the leadership of the Council of Europe, to participate in the meeting in June in Switzerland,” said the president of the Ukrainian parliament.
