The new black titanium color added to the “Apple Watch Ultra 2”

The new color “Black Titanium” is quite stylish and igniting my desire to buy

Since I skipped buying an Apple Watch in 2023, I was hoping to switch from the original Apple Watch Ultra if a third generation was released this year, but it didn’t come out. It’s a bit disappointing yet also a relief. However, the new black titanium color added to the “Apple Watch Ultra 2” is really stylish and is fueling my desire to purchase.

Features of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which remains unchanged from last year’s model

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 remained the same, but the newly introduced “Apple Watch Series 10” has had numerous updates, including changes in shape and materials. One of the aspects I am particularly focused on is the enlarged Retina display. It supports a wide viewing angle, and brightness has reportedly improved by up to 40% when viewed from an angle. I’m not quite clear on the situations where one would view a wristwatch from an angle, so I’d love to try it out to see how convenient and usable it is. Maybe when holding on to a strap or gripping a bicycle handle?

On the downside, I was disappointed with the battery. Although the time for fast charging has been reduced to 30 minutes up to 80%, the maximum operating time remains unchanged at 18 hours. While it has become thinner and lighter, needing daily charging feels a bit tough for activities like camping or hiking.

Curious about the apnea notification feature

Another feature that piques my interest is the “notification of signs of sleep apnea,” which will also be available in Japan. There have been discussions for a long time about the possibility of predicting and diagnosing sleep apnea using data from the Apple Watch, so it feels like it’s finally been implemented. It is said that Apple Watch Series 10, along with Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, will have this feature, but I’m very curious about why earlier models do not support it.

Other smartwatches and bands already offer features that monitor blood oxygen levels and detect disruptions in breathing during sleep. The Galaxy Watch also has a sleep apnea detection function that has been FDA approved. Although there are already suitable apps for Apple Watch, since Apple is implementing this new feature, it surely must meet medical device accuracy, and partnerships with medical institutions in Japan should be anticipated as well.

I hope that this will help uncover many people in Japan, including myself, who might be hidden cases of sleep apnea. However, if asked whether I would upgrade just for this feature, I might have to pass again this time.
