The Corsaro Brothers, first episode: plot

The first episode revolves around a double murder. The victims are Francesca Raimondo and Rosaria Cangelosi, two women seemingly unconnected to each other. The case is investigated by the Corsaro brothers. Fabrizio (Giuseppe Fiorello) and Roberto (Paolo Briguglia) activate their intuition and dig into the victims’ private lives.

They discover a detail that could be crucial for identifying the culprit. Not only were Francesca and Rosaria schoolmates, but they were both involved in a sexual scandal. Thus their murder might conceal an act of revenge?

Who are Fabrizio and Roberto Corsaro?

From the very first episode, Fabrizio and Roberto, although they have two different professions, provide a fundamental contribution to solving the cases.

Fabrizio is a journalist and works for the local newspaper Sicilia Oggi. He is a man passionate about everything, from work to feelings, charming, witty, and friendly. However, while he has clear ideas on a professional level, he struggles a bit more on the private side. He is a ladies’ man with no desire to start a serious relationship. Furthermore, he is pampered by his mother Antonia (Anita Zagaria), who always justifies him, no matter what.

Roberto, on the other hand, is a criminal lawyer, a few years younger than Fabrizio. He has an opposite personality: he is reliable, upright, serious, and very religious. He followed in his father’s footsteps, who died twenty years earlier, taking over the law firm. He is married to Monica (Enrica Pintore) and is about to become a father.

The differences between them help to look at the cases from different perspectives, but they also cause significant friction in everyday life.

Despite this, their brotherly bond is never called into question. In fact, the investigations will only strengthen their union. Toscano, in the novels, describes them as two “ordinary people, with their strengths and weaknesses,” far from the image of “models or heroes” and full of weaknesses, vulnerable sides, and humanity.

Giuseppe Fiorello: “The Corsaro Brothers, rich in humanity and charm”

The Corsaro Brothers opens the new television season of Mediaset in the realm of serials and for Giuseppe Fiorello, it also marks his debut as a protagonist on Channel 5. The actor from Catania encountered Salvo Toscano’s novels a few years ago and was immediately captivated. According to him, they contain original elements that distinguish them “from certain clichés of the investigative genre to which they belong, both in characters and in context.”

He became passionate about the stories of the characters “rich in humanity, psychology, intrigue, and charm” to the point of reaching out to producer Camilla Nesbitt, asking her to purchase the rights. He also contributed to the writing of the screenplay, along with Salvatore De Mola and Pier Paolo Piciarelli. The series was filmed in the Sicilian capital, which Fiorello describes as “an extraordinary and unique city. Palermo literally conquered me, it positively surprised me.”

Throughout the series, the Corsaro brothers will encounter several important characters. Like Giulia (Roberta Rigano), a journalist and colleague of Fabrizio. Among Fabrizio’s potential girlfriends is also Maria Librizzi (Katia Greco), an activist involved in the fight against the mafia, who lives in Casterferro with her uncle. There is chemistry between her and Fabrizio, and their initial camaraderie evolves into a stable relationship, but how long will it last?

Roberto’s wife is Monica (Enrica Pintore): she is in love with her husband, works for a publishing house and hopes to be hired permanently.

Valeria (Lorena Cacciatore) is Roberto’s partner: a long-time friend of Monica, she will fall in love with a woman involved in a case. Additionally: Pippo Nocera (Vittorio Magazzù), a crime photographer, always alongside Fabrizio. Don Luigi Trovato (Maurizio Marchetti), a long-time friend of the Corsaro family and a point of reference for everyone. Gaetano (Massimo De Lorenzo), a former policeman and skilled investigator. Finally, the Deputy Commissioner Fisichella (Francesco Foti) will assist Fabrizio in a very delicate moment.
