“Ring of Fire” Solar Eclipse to be Visible in Parts of the US and Mexico

New York, NY (WPIX) – NASA has predicted that a rare “ring of fire” solar eclipse will be visible in parts of the United States and Mexico next month. This much-anticipated celestial event is set to occur on October 14.

According to NASA, the annular solar eclipse will be visible in several states, including Oregon, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas. Parts of California, Idaho, Colorado, and Arizona will also have the opportunity to witness this stunning phenomenon.

During the eclipse, the sun will appear as a “ring of fire” in the sky, creating a breathtaking sight for those lucky enough to be in the right location at the right time.

The “ring of fire” effect happens when the moon comes between the sun and Earth, reaching its farthest point from our planet. This position causes a black circle to form, surrounded by a brilliant fiery red rim.

After passing through the United States and Mexico, the annular eclipse will continue its journey through Central America before concluding off the coast of Natal, Brazil, in the Atlantic Ocean.

While this eclipse is sure to captivate skygazers, it is worth noting that another significant celestial event is set to take place next year. On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, traveling through Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.

During a total solar eclipse, the sky darkens as if it were dawn or dusk, providing a truly awe-inspiring experience for those fortunate enough to be within its path.

As always, it is important to remember that viewing a solar eclipse can be dangerous for the eyes without proper protective gear. NASA advises using special eclipse glasses or other approved viewing methods to ensure both safety and enjoyment during this stunning celestial event.
