Information brochures on protection from the heat and bottles of ice water, donated by the three bottling industries of Epirus, were distributed by the Department of Civil Protection of the Epirus Region, in view of the new heat wave, which from tomorrow Friday until Sunday will cause even higher temperatures in Epirus.
Outside the headquarters of the Region of Epirus, in the morning, the deputy governor Kostas Siaravas, officials of the Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade and the EKAV, as well as volunteers of the Hellenic Red Cross and the volunteer Club of Hellenic Commandos (LEK) of Preveza were present.
The second heat wave has already started today, with temperatures reaching 44 degrees in some places. In fact, the METEO unit of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA), in collaboration with the scientific committee of the Arsht-Rock Resilience Center of the Atlantic Council, operationally applies the categorization of days with high temperatures for six major cities of the country, including Ioannina, while the Hellenic Red Cross and the Greek office of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) participate in the working group.
The categorization, as mentioned, includes four classification categories (0-1-2-3). According to the prognostic data of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the temperature at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level for Friday will be 8-10 degrees higher than the normal levels for the season. Regarding the risk level, level 3 is expected in Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa and Patras, and risk level 2 (extremely high temperatures) in Ioannina.
Mr. Siaravas gave advice to the citizens to take all measures to protect themselves from high temperatures, but also to avoid fires, while for his part the dual goal of the action, that is to inform, but also to coordinate all the involved bodies, noted the president of the Ioannina branch of the E.E.S. Kostas Dakaletsis.
