A Windows update leads to a significant jump in performance for many processors. Users can look forward to noticeably better results.
Computers with AMD processors benefit from an update to Windows 11, as it significantly improves performance in games, among other things. The “Hardware-Unboxed” portal reports an average increase of five to 20 percent.
Depending on the processor and game used, the figure could be as much as 35 percent. Older Ryzen processors from the Zen 3 and Zen 4 generations (Ryzen 5,000 and 7,000) also benefited from significant performance boosts.
After the release of the new Zen 5 processors in July, many users were disappointed because they did not deliver the expected performance increases. AMD explained the small increase in performance with an optimization problem in Windows, which was to be fixed with an update.
The tests show that the patch for Windows 11 version 24H2, which is expected to be released in September or October, does indeed lead to noticeable improvements.
The Ryzen 7 9700X has an average of eleven percent more performance compared to the previous Windows version 23H2. The Ryzen 7 7,700X from last year also benefits from the update with a performance increase of around ten percent.
As a reason for the significant increases, manufacturer AMD explained that the update improves optimizations in the so-called branch prediction in their processors. This function predicts which instructions are needed next and preloads them into memory – this speeds up the entire process and leads to smoother gaming experiences.
As the IT magazine “heise online” reports, users do not even have to wait until the Windows 11 patch 24H2 is released. The recently available Windows 11 update KB5041587 also significantly increases the performance of Ryzen processors.
For users who are registered for Microsoft’s Insider program, the cumulative update is installed automatically. Alternatively, you can also initiate it manually. To do this, navigate to “Windows Update” in the settings; the download should then start automatically.
