A coordinated regional police sweep across northwest Ghana has dismantled an alleged motorbike theft syndicate operating within the region. The multi-location operation yielded 17 stolen motorbikes and landed multiple suspects behind bars, setting up a court appearance for next month.
The Jirapa Theft Report That Sparked the Investigation
The breakthrough began with a single stolen vehicle reported on July 11, 2026. A victim discovered that her black Luojia motorbike, bearing registration number M-21-UW 3512, had been taken directly from the premises of the Ghana National Fire Service in Jirapa.
Rather than waiting passively, the victim circulated details of the missing bike among friends and local law enforcement. That grassroots intelligence sharing proved critical. Operating swiftly on the tip, officers tracked down and arrested Nasiru Muftawu at Loho in possession of the stolen motorbike.

During subsequent interrogation, Muftawu admitted to the theft, providing investigators with the opening needed to widen their net across the Wa Municipality and surrounding districts.
How the Syndicate Unraveled Across Wa
Interrogation of the initial suspect triggered a cascade of intelligence-led arrests. Police subsequently apprehended Basit Muftawu alias Posey, 19; Issahaku Maruf alias Katel, 22; and Mohammed Ali alias Geewaa, 18. Investigators also recovered additional exhibits connected to the crimes from Rashid Kankan, 20; Mutala Rashad, 20; and Haruna Hamdan alias DJ, 20.
Parallel special anti-robbery operations conducted between July 11 and July 15 in areas including Wa, Charia, and Hamile netted four additional suspects identified as Yusif Mohammed Ali, Abdulai Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdul Rashid, and Mustapha Abdul Aziz Posy. Police disclosures revealed that these individuals confessed to involvement in stealing and selling motorbikes, which in turn led officers to four more individuals who allegedly purchased the stolen property.
Sustained investigative work ultimately tracked down 16 additional motorbikes stolen from UBIDS, Chakor, and Glamon, all located within the Wa Municipality. That recovery brought the grand total of seized motorcycles to 17.
Wa Circuit Court Remand and Public Appeal
The arrested suspects have been arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear before the court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
