Urban bus transport in Castilla-La Mancha grew by 26.6% in March, compared to the same month of the previous year, up to 1.8 million passengers transported, according to data from the Travel Transport statistics of the National Statistics Institute (INE).

More than 476.9 million passengers used public transport in Spain last March, 20.8% more than in the same month of 2022. Urban transport increased by 21.5% in the annual rate and interurban 24.7% did. Within the interurban, the 34.5% increase in maritime transport stands out especially.

The variation rate of the number of public transport passengers in Spain in the month of March compared to February was 19%, according to data from the statistical institute.

Urban transport was used by more than 289.3 million passengers in March, 21.5% more than in the same month in 2022.

Metro transport increased by 21.9% in the annual rate, with the Valencia metro presenting the greatest increase, 62%, and the Bilbao metro the least, 15.1%.

Among the cities that have a metro, the greatest increase in bus transport was registered in Palma (50.7%), and the least in Bilbao (14%).

Urban bus transport increased by 21.2% in March compared to the same month of the previous year, presenting positive annual rates in all the autonomous communities.

The greatest increases occurred in the Canary Islands (48.3%), the Valencian Community (35.7%) and the Region of Murcia (32.8%), while in Madrid and Aragón (15.1% in both cases) and País Basque Country (17.4%) registered the smallest increases.

For its part, the number of air passengers in Spain increased by 25.9% last March, to over 3.5 million. Also noteworthy is a 76.4% increase in medium-distance railways, with more than 4 million passengers, and a 7.8% increase in high-speed railways, up to 1.8 million passengers.

INE data show that more than 135.6 million passengers used interurban transport in March, which represents an increase of 24.7% compared to the same month in 2022.

By type of transport, maritime grew 34.5%, rail 29.5%, air 25.9%, and bus 20.4%, according to the INE.

Commuter transport rose 17.1% in bus transport and 28.2% in rail transport. Medium distance, on the other hand, grew by 28.6% in bus transport and 76.4% in rail, to more than four million passengers.

And finally, long distance increased by 36.5% in bus transport and 7.9% in rail. Within the latter, High Speed ​​grew by 7.8%, up to 1.8 million passengers.

Finally, more than 52.9 million users used special and discretionary transport in March, which represents an increase of 8.8% in the annual rate.

The number of special transport passengers fell by 1.9% and exceeded 34.9 million users. Within this, school fees fell by 0.4% and labor fees by 7.5%.

For its part, discretionary transport grew by 39.9% compared to the same month in 2022, with more than 17 million passengers.
