Urban local body elections for corporations, municipalities and municipalities in Tamil Nadu are being held today (19th).

Elections are being held for 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 489 municipalities.

Voting begins at 7 a.m. today in 1,374 wards in the metropolitan area, 3,843 wards in the municipal area and 7,621 wards in the metropolitan area.

For this 15 thousand 158 polling stations have been set up in the areas of the corporation. There are 7,417 polling stations in the municipal areas and 8,454 in the municipal areas. A total of 31,150 polling stations have been set up across the state.

All arrangements for recording at these polling stations are in place. 1 lakh 60 thousand electronic machines are being used in the polling stations for the elections to be held today.

All of these electronic machines were taken to a total of 31,150 polling stations with heavy security this morning. Electronic machines were brought to all the centers under the supervision of election officials with police security led by a sub-inspector.

3,678 polling stations across the state were found to be tense. In Chennai alone, 1,100 places are tense, according to police.

About 1.13 lakh police personnel are deployed to maintain law and order. State Election Commissioner Palanikumar said that people can go to the polls and vote without fear. Votes cast today will be counted on the 22nd.
