Former President Álvaro Uribe spoke on the new labor reform that the Government presented this week to Congress.

The text was filed without prior notice to the public and the media, which is why it was quickly rejected by the opposition and the business union, where they consider that the reform will generate unemployment.

However, the articles did go down well with the union that represents the digital platforms –one of the biggest critics of the first version–, since a definitive agreement was reached to ensure the protection of the worker regardless of the nature of the link; that is, if it is dependent or independent.

Uribe translated the above as a positive amendment: “The Government has amended for the better the point of the labor reform corresponding to the platforms. Uber and Rappi will no longer have to rigorously submit to the Labor Code, with which they would disappear, ”he said in a video posted on his social networks.

As he said, the idea of the Democratic Center “that that lady from Uber and that boy from Rappi cannot be left without social security” was accepted and the solution would now be a shared payment.

What is established is that the platforms will pay 60% of the contributions to health and pension and the worker the remaining 40%.

However, he also said that some concerns remain: “It is good to protect the right to strike, but you cannot turn the country’s productive activity into a permanent strike.”

He assured that many people could lose their jobs and those who work on the streets “will never find an opportunity.”

As an alternative, he stated that “an additional premium is preferable in sectors that grow at 4% or more, there the employer and the worker would be cooperating.”
