The political leadership of the European People’s Party, which earlier in the day arrived in Bucharest for the upcoming EPP congress, confirmed this evening the registration of Ursula von der Leyen in the race to appoint an EPP candidate for the post of President of the European Commission. This was announced by the deputy chairman of the EPP and MEP from the Romanian National Liberal Party (NLP), Siegfried Muresan, in an information to the media.

Ursula von der Leyen’s candidacy will be voted on at the European People’s Party congress in Bucharest on March 7 at 10:00 a.m. local (and Bulgarian time).

The event, attended by 2,000 delegates from 44 countries, begins on Wednesday (March 6) in the Romanian capital. With it, the EPP will mark the beginning of its pre-election campaign for the vote in June. Bulgaria will be represented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel and by the Chairman of GERB Boyko Borisov, as well as by the Bulgarian MEPs who belong to the EPP group, BTA reported.
