US Africa Command Commander Meets Haftar in Benghazi to Discuss Strengthening Partnership with Libya

The US Embassy in Libya announced that the Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Michael Langley, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy, ​​Jamie Brent, met with Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi to discuss the United States’ commitment to strengthening its partnership with Libyans from across the country.

During the meeting, Langley stressed the importance of maintaining stability in Libya and de-escalating the situation in light of the “current tensions.”

The US delegation called on all Libyan parties to engage constructively in a dialogue with the support of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the international community.

For his part, Brent stressed the importance of this visit, noting that he and General Langley will meet with “defense and security leaders” in the West and East to discuss how the United States can contribute to unifying the Libyan military forces and securing the country’s sovereignty.

For his part, the media office of Haftar’s forces said that the latter welcomed the visit of the American delegation, stressing the importance of enhancing coordination and joint cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism.

The media office explained that “the meeting discussed the importance of developing the partnership between the two countries in a way that serves common goals and interests, and exchanging expertise in the military and security fields.”
