Iran blames both Israel and the United States for the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in today’s attack in Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement quoted by DPA.
“The United States is also responsible for this brutal act of terrorism,” the statement said.
Washington has always supported the Israeli government and consistently approved its crimes, thus also playing a role in this incident, the Iranian foreign policy ministry noted, quoted by BTA.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran reiterates that Iran has the legitimate right to respond appropriately to a crime committed on its own territory.
According to the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, its political leader was killed in an Israeli attack on a residence in Tehran early this morning. Israel declined to comment on Hania’s death.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Washington was not involved in Haniya’s violent death and had no prior knowledge of the murder.
