The US State Department reacted to the detention of Saakashvili

Saakashvili was detained on October 1, the very day he announced his return to Georgia. He explained that he decided to return to the country ahead of the municipal elections. Now the politician is in the prison of the city of Rustavi and has gone on a hunger strike.

The incumbent President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, said that she would not pardon Saakashvili if he asks about it. According to her, he arrived in Georgia to destabilize the situation in the country.
