US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan may return to Moscow “in the coming weeks.” Now he is taking part in the preparation of the summit of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, which is scheduled for June 16 in Geneva, said US State Department spokesman Ned Price.

“Ambassador Sullivan is actively involved in preparations for the upcoming meeting between Presidents Biden and Putin, he is actively in contact with representatives of the White House and the State Department. And we expect him to return to Moscow in the coming weeks, ”Price said (quoted by RIA Novosti)

The State Department spokesman added that Sullivan returned to Washington a few weeks ago for consultations.

US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan left Moscow in April after the introduction of new US sanctions against Russia, which included restrictions on national debt and the expulsion of diplomats. Moscow retaliated, and also invited Sullivan to return to the United States for consultations. Prior to that, the US was left by the Russian ambassador to the country, Anatoly Antonov. The Russian Foreign Ministry has not yet named a possible date for his return.

The leaders of Russia and the United States will meet in Geneva on June 16. The topics of discussion will be the state and prospects for the development of Russian-American relations, strategic stability, as well as issues on the global agenda, including the fight against coronavirus and the settlement of regional conflicts.
