The US is asking all allies, including Turkey, to persuade Iran to ease tensions in the Middle East.
As reported by Day.Az, US Ambassador to Ankara Jeffrey Flake announced this in an interview with Reuters.
“The Turkish side is making every effort to prevent escalation… It seems that they are even more confident than we are that escalation can be avoided,” the diplomat noted, emphasizing Ankara’s important role in regional diplomacy.
The statement comes amid growing international concern about the situation in the Middle East. The White House issued a statement the day before that the United States, together with Great Britain, Germany, Italy and France, called on Iran to abandon its constant threats of military attack on Israel.
The document also emphasizes support for efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and reach a ceasefire agreement. Particular attention is paid to the issue of releasing Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian movement Hamas.
