Washington, 19 set 06:16 – (Agenzia Nova) – The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit yesterday against the Singaporean owner and operator of the M/V Dali cargo ship, which crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in March, causing the bridge to collapse and killing six people. The U.S. federal government is seeking $100 million in damages from Grace Ocean Private and Synergy Marine Private. In a statement, Attorney General Merrick Garland said that “the Department of Justice is determined to prosecute those responsible for the destruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.” The bridge’s collapse had isolated the Port of Baltimore, a major U.S. freight hub, for months. According to the Justice Department, the incident, caused by a sudden loss of power in the ship’s propulsion system, was the result of “negligence, mismanagement and, at times, cost-cutting by configuring the ship’s electrical and mechanical systems in a way that made it impossible to quickly restore propulsion and maneuverability after the loss of power.” (Was)
