The United States imposed economic sanctions on the Iranian organization that had announced a tribute to the assassination of Indian-origin British-American writer Salman Rushdie.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, ‘an economic sanction is being imposed on 15 Kordarth Foundation, which had announced a multi-crore reward for the assassination of Salman Rushdie. The United States will never abandon its commitment to protecting foreign religious freedom and freedom of expression.

In 1988, the book ‘Satan’s Vedas’ written by Salman Rushdie (75) was heavily criticized for defaming Islam. He was issued a fatwa by the then Iranian cleric Ayatollah Khomeini.

In this situation, Rushdie was seriously injured in a stabbing attack in New York last August.
