The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) has applied to the US Department of State with a request to recognize in the country certificates of vaccination with the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, President of the Chamber Alexis Rodzianko told Izvestia.

“In order to travel from Russia to the United States, two things are needed: a visa, which is now impossible to obtain, and an inoculation with the vaccine accepted by either the WHO or the United States. So we asked the US government to take other vaccines for business travel, including Sputnik V, ”he said.

According to Rodzianko, the State Department accepted the appeal for consideration. “The answer to our request was: while we are thinking,” he added.

In early October, Moscow and Washington began discussing the issue of mutual recognition of vaccination certificates, the Russian Ministry of Health said. Rodzianko specified that many representatives of American business in Russia were vaccinated with Sputnik V and did not encounter problems, while visiting foreign specialists had difficulties with short-term visits.

Earlier, on November 9, the United States changed the rules for entering the country: foreigners with nonimmigrant visas are now required to provide a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus. In this case, only documents confirming the fact of vaccination with drugs approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the US medical regulator are allowed. This list includes vaccines from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Covaxin, Sinovac Biotech and Sinopharm.

Sputnik V was registered on August 11, 2020 – the first in the world among such drugs. It was created in the center of them. Gamalei. The developers estimated its effectiveness at 97.6%, and the international scientific journal The Lancet – at 91.6%. At the moment, the drug is approved in 70 countries of the world with a total population of 4 billion people.
