A high-level delegation of the United States is coming to Dhaka at the beginning of next week. The discussion of Bangladesh-US relations with the delegation will be multi-dimensional. Dhaka is preparing with this in mind.

On Thursday (September 12) evening, Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin gave this information while talking to journalists.

The Foreign Secretary said, I do not want to make any kind of comment before the start of the discussion, which will undermine the normality of the discussion. All I can say is that the arrival of the first team of the United States after the interim government is a great reflection of the importance they attach to Bangladesh and you know who is in the delegation. This implies that this discussion will be multi-dimensional, it will not be limited to just one topic. We are preparing accordingly.

The delegation will arrive in Dhaka under the leadership of Brent Neiman, Assistant Undersecretary for International Finance of the US Department of Revenue and Finance, on Saturday (September 14). The delegation will include representatives from the US National Security Council, the State Department, the Office of the Trade Representative and international aid agencies. Among them are US National Security Council Senior Director Lindsey Ford, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu.

In response to the question of what importance will be on the agenda of Dhaka, the foreign secretary said, we will talk about issues related to our interests and there will be multi-dimensionality in it. But I don’t want to influence the discussion by revealing any specific agenda items before the discussion or before the delegation is seated.

The delegation includes Donald Lu. There is interest among the people of Bangladesh around him. In response to the question of how much we will engage with the US and what will be its response, Jasim Uddin said that the government wants to go to a mutually beneficial relationship with everyone. The people of Bangladesh have historically had an interest in international affairs.

The United States delegation is the chief adviser of the interim government. Besides Muhammad Yunus, Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed and Foreign Affairs Advisor. There is a meeting with Touhid Hossain. He will also have a meeting with the Foreign Secretary.
