The US Embassy in Dhaka is not willing to comment on the revocation of the visas of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and other ministers.
On Tuesday (August 6), the media asked the US Embassy in Dhaka whether the US has revoked the US visas of Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, former government ministers, advisers and officials.
In this regard, the spokesperson of the US Embassy in Dhaka, Stephen Ebelli, said that visa records are confidential under US law. Therefore, we do not discuss individual visas in detail.
Earlier, on Tuesday, British human rights activist and investigative journalist David Bergman wrote in a post on social media X that sources close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the United States had canceled the visa of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh on Monday afternoon and is currently deciding her next move in India. Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed Joy lives in Virginia, USA.
He also wrote that it is not clear whether Hasina has any plans to go to the United States. Reports say Hasina is considering applying for asylum in the UK, where her sister (Sheikh Rehana) and niece (Tulip Siddique MP) live. However, under UK rules it is not possible to apply for asylum from outside the country….
Indian media News18 also reported this information citing sources.
It should be noted that Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on Monday (August 5) in view of the quota reform movement and left the country. In that context, the National Parliament has also been dissolved. Currently, Sheikh Hasina is staying in Delhi.
