US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that the country’s authorities have not yet confirmed reports of the alleged death of an American journalist in Ukraine.

“I will need to consult with our colleagues, allies and partners, as well as Ukrainians on the ground, to get more information about what happened,” Sullivan said on CNN (quoted by RIA Novosti).

He added that if the information about the death of a journalist is confirmed, then it will be a “shocking and horrifying event.”

CNN, citing sources in the Ukrainian police, reported that journalist and documentary filmmaker Brent Renault was killed in a shelling in the Ukrainian city of Irpin. The police, the TV channel noted, published a Reno press card with the logo of The New York Times.

It was reported that several reporters were also injured in the incident, they were hospitalized in a Kiev hospital. The New York Times stated that there are currently no journalists working in Ukraine for the publication.
