by time news

Attorneys General of several states have launched an investigation into the video service TikTok – they will check the impact of the service on minors and their mental health. The investigation is being conducted by prosecutors in eight states – California, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, Tennessee and Vermont.

“Today, attorneys general across the country launched a joint investigation into TikTok for providing and promoting its social platform to children and youth, with such use associated with harm to mental and physical health,” the statement said.

Among other things, prosecutors want to look into the possible impact of the service on the health of children and adolescents, as well as the ways that TikTok uses to increase their involvement, increase the time spent on the service, etc.

In November, the same states’ attorneys general launched the same investigation against Instagram. It began after The Wall Street Journal published internal company documents, including a study conducted by Instagram that revealed the negative impact of this platform on a significant part of the audience, especially teenage girls.
