The United States may impose new sanctions on China in the coming weeks over trade ties with Russia.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was stated by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
“I don’t have any statements at this point, but I think you can expect additional sanctions. [в отношении Китая] “as we watch this situation evolve in the coming weeks,” he said, speaking at the annual security forum hosted by the Aspen Institute.
Sullivan noted that Washington will continue to put sanctions pressure on banks in China and other countries for “operations with the Russian defense industry complex.” “The President has authorized the Secretary of the Treasury <...> impose almost unprecedented sanctions on banks, Chinese banks, and banks in any other country that facilitate operations for the Russian war machine,” he said. “We have imposed [санкционный режим] “so that when we find a bank that we think falls under that regime, we can do something about it.” The US presidential aide also claimed that the US is seeing Beijing’s response to warnings about financial institutions that are of concern to US authorities.
