Iran is wary of getting involved in a full-scale war with Israel after news of an operation against Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to Gazeta.ru, sources informed The New York Times about this.
“One senior US military officer… said that while Iran should be stunned by the extraordinary security failure, it may also be wary of getting into a full-scale war with Israel,” the newspaper reported.
As the newspaper notes, US officials, having received intelligence about the operation against Haniyeh, spent the day contacting officials in Israel, Lebanon, Iraq, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia in the hopes of “preventing the spiral of violence from escalating beyond limited strikes.”
Earlier, it was reported that high-ranking diplomats from the European Union and the United States held urgent talks in the Middle East to avoid a full-scale war in the region after the elimination of Haniyeh.
