US Officials Probe Alleged Chinese Espionage Targeting Nvidia CEO

US intelligence officials are examining a potential espionage case involving Jensen Huang and a corporate manager from Singapore who is suspected of gathering intelligence for China’s Ministry of State Security.

The situation centers on an intelligence memo that was circulated to a small circle of government officials ahead of a presidential trip to China in May 2026. The document details an intimate relationship between Jensen Huang and Alice Huang, who are not related. According to reports from the Financial Times and the New York Times, the manager’s objective was to collect information on the executive and his company while potentially exerting influence in favor of additional chip sales to China.

US Authorities Investigate Chip Shipments to China

At the center of the policy friction are advanced Nvidia semiconductors distributed via Megaspeed, a Singapore-based customer currently under US investigation. Authorities are examining whether the firm funneled high-end hardware to China in violation of strict federal export controls. Jensen Huang personally lobbied US President Donald Trump for specific export approvals, while the White House and the CIA declined to comment on the matter.

Nvidia conducted an internal review regarding Megaspeed and found no wrongdoing, maintaining that its executive routinely meets numerous customer representatives and that the interactions with Alice Huang were not unusual. Beijing has dismissed the allegations.

Congressional Briefing Scheduled

The disclosures have triggered a legislative response in Washington. Three republican committee chairs in the US House of Representatives—heading the panels for foreign affairs, intelligence, and the Chinese Communist Party select committee—have invited the executive to a confidential briefing scheduled for November 18.

American intelligence services initiated electronic surveillance on Alice Huang at least a year prior to the disclosures. US media outlets and the Financial Times have highlighted the heavy economic and political weight surrounding the firm, which has ranked as one of the world’s most valuable enterprises. Jensen Huang maintains close business and political ties to US President Donald Trump, participating in a White House meeting with corporate leaders in late September 2026 as well as an official state banquet for Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington.

Investigators suspect that Megaspeed utilized data centers located in Southeast Asia to route sophisticated Nvidia hardware toward prohibited destinations. Prior to the public revelations, President Trump had reportedly been briefed on the connection between the executive and the designated individual last year, yet opted against taking formal action. Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Washington has not responded to inquiries regarding the intelligence assessments.
