Washington: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia, America has acknowledged that India can play an important role in ending the Ukraine war. America said on Wednesday that India, along with Russia, has the capability to convince Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. America has given this statement just after PM Modi’s two-day visit to Russia. White House spokesperson Karine Jean Pierre acknowledged the importance of New Delhi’s role in promoting peace and said, “India is a strategic partner with whom we have full and frank dialogue, including their relations with Russia. We have talked about this before. Therefore, we believe that it is important that all countries, including India, support efforts to establish a lasting and just peace in the case of Ukraine.
America acknowledged India’s strength
Speaking on India’s role, the US spokesperson further said, ‘We also believe that India’s long-standing relationship with Russia gives it the ability to urge President Putin to end the brutal and unprovoked war going on in Ukraine. It is President Putin’s job to end it. President Putin started the war and only he can end it.’ The statement of the US spokesperson comes after PM Modi’s assurance to the world community in Russia, in which he said that India is committed to peace and is ready to cooperate in every possible way to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
PM Modi’s statement on deaths in Ukraine
During bilateral talks with Putin on Tuesday, PM Modi had expressed concern over the deaths in the 29-month-long conflict in Ukraine. He especially mentioned the death of innocent children. PM Modi had said that his heart breaks over the killing of innocent children. Just a day before this, Russia had attacked a children’s hospital in Kiev with a missile. Kiev had said that 36 people were killed and more than 140 were injured in this attack.
Zelensky got angry on PM Modi’s visit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had reacted sharply to PM Modi’s meeting with President Putin. Zelensky had said that it was disappointing to see the leader of the world’s largest democracy hugging a bloody murderer. He had described this meeting as a setback to peace efforts in Ukraine. He said that Modi met Putin on the same day when Russian missiles were targeting a children’s hospital in Kiev.
