Andrey Rublev, 8th player in the world, qualified for his fourth quarter-final at the US Open on Monday by winning against Briton Jack Draper in four sets.

After defeating the 21-year-old English youngster 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, the Russian said: “From the first point I felt the ball well, and so did he. But I knew that we would have to drag out the match because he was coming back from an injury and he was not at his best physically. That’s what happened: it went down in intensity and I won.”

The 25-year-old could find his compatriot Daniil Medvedev, winner in 2021, or the Australian Alex De Minaur, 13th in the world, in the quarter-finals.

Rublev had already reached the quarters three times at Flushing Meadows, including last year. He also played quarterbacks at all three other Grand Slams, including Australia and Wimbledon this year, but never made it to the last four.
