US pledges cooperation in developing battery energy storage system

The United States has assured cooperation in the development of battery energy storage systems and purchase of train locomotives in Bangladesh with emphasis on renewable energy enrichment and technological aspects.

A five-member delegation led by Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Bangladesh, Helen Lafave, gave this assurance in a courtesy meeting with Road Transport and Bridges Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan at the Ministry’s office in the Secretariat on Thursday (August 29).
During the meeting, the road transport and bridge advisor thanked the United States for the friendly relations between the two countries and mutual partnership and cooperation in various developmental sectors of Bangladesh.

At this time, he informed the charge of affairs about the strict and rigid stance of this government against corruption, injustice and discrimination. The advisor said, already, Section 34(a) of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has been removed to ensure transparency and accountability of the government to the people.

Instructing the procurement process to be completed through open competitive tenders, the advisor added that the power and energy sector boards are being reformed and restructured.

Greeting and congratulating the interim government, the charge of affairs said that the United States will also support the development of battery energy storage systems and the purchase of train locomotives in Bangladesh with emphasis on renewable energy enrichment and technological aspects.

Apart from this, Charge assured the Affairs Adviser about investing in land based gas plants and standing by Bangladesh in the construction of roads, bridges and tunnels in the future.

James Gardiner, Acting Chief of Economic Affairs of the United States Embassy, ​​Reid Ashliman, Commercial Lead of USAID, and senior officials of the Ministry were present at the meeting.
