US President Joe Biden suggests link between Hamas attack and India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor

by time news

US President Joe Biden suggests that the recent attack by Hamas on Israel may be linked to the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. The corridor aims to integrate the region through a network of rail, road, and ports, promoting economic development and connectivity. During a joint press conference with Australian PM Anthony Albanese, President Biden expressed his belief that the attack occurred due to the progress being made towards regional integration. He emphasized the importance of not abandoning this work and building a more sustainable Middle East.

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor was established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by several countries and entities, including the USA, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union. The corridor consists of two separate corridors: the East corridor connecting India to West Asia/Middle East and the Northern corridor connecting West Asia/Middle East to Europe. It will provide a reliable and cost-effective cross-border ship-to-rail transit network, enhancing transhipment of goods and services between Southeast Asia, India, and West Asia/Middle East Europe. President Biden recently praised the project, recognizing its potential to spur investment across the two continents.

In the midst of these developments, the Israel-Hamas war has entered its 20th day. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that his goal in this war is “saving the nation” and has promised a ground incursion to destroy Hamas in Gaza. While preparations for a ground operation are underway, Netanyahu has not disclosed specific details to protect the lives of Israeli soldiers. He emphasized that Israel is fighting for its existence and aims to eliminate Hamas’s military and governance capabilities while ensuring the safe return of Israeli hostages.
