The United States’ response to the drone attack against its base in Jordan, which resulted in the death of three American soldiers on Tuesday, is expected to be more powerful than previous attacks carried out in the Middle East – according to sources who spoke to CNN today (Tuesday). At the same time, the sources emphasized that the White House And the Pentagon is not interested in bringing about the outbreak of a wide-scale war against Iran, even though militias supported by it have carried out more than 160 attacks against American bases in Syria and Iraq since October.

President Joe Biden, who is currently under increasing pressure regarding his response to the deadly attack in Jordan, wrote tonight in a post he published on social networks: “I was briefed by members of my national security team regarding the latest developments regarding the attack that took place against American service members in northeastern Jordan. We We will exact a price from all those responsible for the attack, at the time and in the manner we choose.”

In recent months, the United States has carried out several attacks against weapons warehouses of pro-Iranian terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria. So far, none of these attacks have deterred the groups, whose numerous attacks since October have injured more than 120 US military personnel. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken commented on the situation and stated that the tensions in the Middle East are “the most dangerous in decades”. In addition, Blinken announced that the American response may occur “in several stages and last for a long time”.

Now the Biden administration may order attacks against pro-Iranian targets in the Middle East and go after militia leaders. Senior administration officials announced that a cyber attack is a possibility that is also being considered, alongside military action.

One of the sources who spoke with CNN emphasized that the United States does not publish specific information regarding the UAV attack operations, in order to maintain the “element of surprise” in regards to the expected American response. “We are not taking any option off the table,” added an official in the Defense Department.

“We are not interested in a war against Iran or the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East,” said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby. “In fact, every decision of the president was made in an attempt to lower tensions,” he added.

In recent days, Republican members of Congress have called on President Biden to respond to the death of the three American soldiers in the attack on Iran itself, and not to be content with harming the terrorist groups operating on its behalf. The leader of the Republican minority in the Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell, said in a statement that he expects the administration in Washington to exact a “heavy and crippling price” from Tehran, and added: “Along with an attack against the agents of terrorism, we must attack the Iranian sponsors themselves – who are proud of the American blood they shed.”

Senator Lindsey Graham, who visited Israel in recent days, joined the call and claimed that an attack that is not carried out against Iran itself will not succeed in deterring the Ayatollah regime. Senator John Cornyn added in a tweet that he published: “We marked Tehran as a target.”
