U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin assures U.S. allies in the Middle East that the U.S. will “consider all other options if Iran does not take the nuclear issue seriously,” and that the U.S. will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Speaking in Bahrain, Austin said that “President Biden is committed to all security issues in the region. Let us be clear: the United States’ commitment to security in the Middle East is courageous and secure.” Austin has repeatedly promised that his country will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

“The United States is committed to denying Iran nuclear weapons, and we are also committed to the diplomatic results of the nuclear issue. However, if Iran refuses to take it seriously, then we will look at all the other options to keep the United States safe. The defense minister stressed that Tehran’s recent actions were not encouraging, and that Iran had expanded the scope of its nuclear program.

In September, the Atomic Energy Commission in Vienna announced that Iran was undermining efforts to monitor uranium enrichment programs. Last week, the head of the nuclear agency, Rafael Grossi, was invited to talks in Tehran.
