U.S. stocks fell at the close of trading on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing 0.16% and the S&P 500 and NASDAQ also experiencing declines. The drop in stock indices was driven by losses in the energy, financial, and consumer goods sectors.

Leading the way among the best-performing stocks in the index were 3M, The Travelers Company, and Walmart. Meanwhile, Walgreens Boots Alliance and The Walt Disney Company were among the worst performers, with Walgreens Boots Alliance hitting a five-year low.

In the S&P 500, Domino’s Pizza, International Piper, and Crown Castle International were the top performers, while Albemarley, Illumina, and Walgreens Boots Alliance were among the weakest stocks.

Over in the NASDAQ index, Redhill Biopharma, Biodexa Pharmaceuticals PLC DRC, and Asset Entities Inc were the best performers, while Impal Neuro-Pharma, TC BioPharm Holdings PLC, and BioNexus Gene Lab Corp were among the weakest stocks.

The number of declining stocks exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher in trading on the New York Stock Exchange, and a similar trend was seen on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange.

The gold futures contract for December delivery saw an increase, while crude oil futures for delivery in January and Brent oil futures for February saw decreases. The EUR/USD and USD/JPY pairs both experienced stability and declines, respectively.

Overall, it was a day of losses for U.S. equities, with various factors contributing to the downward trend in the stock market.
