Yemeni Houthi forces attacked two Saudi Arabian ships in the Red Sea, prompting the United States military to launch a fresh wave of airstrikes against Iranian military targets amid a widening regional conflict over maritime trade routes.

The Houthis are now threatening to shut down another key trade route, compounding global economic distress triggered by Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Regional Repercussions and Intercepted Missiles
Iranian state media reported that a U.S. missile strike on the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iraq killed two people, while a separate military target was struck in the southern province of Bushehr, home to Iran’s sole commercial nuclear power plant.
The Iranian armed forces targeted U.S. military facilities in Kuwait and Jordan, though officials in both countries confirmed that their air defenses successfully intercepted the incoming missiles and drones overnight.
