The number of jobs in the US economy increased by 114 thousand in July, the country’s Labor Department said in a statement, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

The revised data showed that the number of jobs increased by 179,000 in June, rather than the previously reported 206,000.

Unemployment in the United States increased last month to the highest since October 2021, 4.3%, from 4.1% in June.

The consensus forecast of experts, cited by Trading Economics, assumed an increase in the number of jobs in July by 175 thousand and unemployment remaining at 4.1%.

The number of jobs in the private sector increased by 97 thousand in July, and in the public sector by 17 thousand.

The growth in healthcare was 55 thousand, in the social sphere – 9 thousand, in the construction sector – 25 thousand, in transport and logistics – 14 thousand. At the same time, in the mining and oil and gas sectors, industrial production, wholesale and retail trade, in the sphere of professional and business services, in the leisure and hotel business, the number of jobs changed insignificantly.

Average hourly earnings in the private sector increased by 0.2% in July compared to the previous month and reached $35.07. In annual terms, the indicator increased by 3.6% – the smallest increase since May 2021. In June, the increase was 0.3% month-on-month and 3.8% year-on-year.

The average workweek in the United States fell to 34.2 hours in July from 34.3 hours in the previous three months.

The labor force participation rate rose to 62.7% from 62.6% in June.
